Fibre Arts

I play in 3 main areas of the fibre arts: spinning, weaving and rug hooking. They work together and compliment each other in dfferent ways.

I started with rug hooking, a simple Deanne Fitzpatrick introductory kit, found at Masstown market in Nova Scotia.

This small 6×6 inch mat was simple and quick to do. It made me realize that I enjoy the creative process, choosing where and how I wanted my image to look. I made choices as I hooked on colour and style. I wanted to do more when I finished it. I have since then joined my local guild, finished various kits, attended classes and different styles and watching my own creations come to life.

While exploring marketplace I found a used spinning wheel, ashford tradtional wheel. I picked it up while camping, took it apart and cleaned it up. It had been sitting in an attic for years, thought long lost. It was found when preping to move. I fixed it up, found raw fleece, fresh sheared from a local farmer. I processed that raw fleece: picking, washing, rinsing, drying, flicking, carding, combing and then spinning. I dyed that handspun yarn and have since used it in my home made rug hooing art.
